buying the dream

On today's walk, I casually browsed the internet, scrolling through my favorite subreddits and checking out new YouTube uploads.

While scrolling through my YouTube home feed, a camera ad caught my eye 1. The ad portrayed a trip to Japan, showcasing beautiful pictures, moments spent with friends, and various fun activities being captured. It was a well-crafted product trailer.

After watching the ad, I checked the comment section, and one comment in particular resonated with me. It was something along the lines of:

Many people want to experience traveling, socializing, and all the exciting adventures. The company is primarily selling the aspiration of experiencing such moments. The product is just a means to achieve that.

I keep thinking about it: how many ads are created to target our dreams? How many things have I bought to have those dreams?
