my cable drawer
My cable drawer is a mess. It grew from housing many USB Type-C and micro-USB cables, as well as that blue one that was used with monitors 15 years ago, to also containing various random, unused gadgets. There is a cheap drawing tablet that I bought last summer. In the back, there is a random small budget speaker that actually sounds worse than my phone.1 Alongside the cables, a few old mouses are entangled.
This ecosystem existed in harmony for some time. Sometimes, one cable is taken out, and then a few new ones are thrown in.
Yesterday was the day when everything changed. I needed to find a cable to charge my phone. How hard can it be to find a USB-C to USB-C cable? But then, one cable was only 15 cm, another didn’t work, and another ended with an old USB port. Ahh… Cables are one thing I can untangle; if they work, I can tie and throw them in the back, but the gadgets had to go.
Hence, this was today’s focus. I placed many items on an online marketplace. Maybe somebody will need them? As the saying goes:
One man's trash is another man's treasure
Or if not, maybe I will be able to donate them, or worst case, I will simply throw them away. Then my cable drawer can be a cable drawer once again.
This is especially surprising to me, like how a speaker the size of a phone can sound worse than a phone.↩
